        Dakota Jones

        Biography

        Date of Birth:

        December 5, 1990

        Place of Birth:

        Casper, WY

        Current Home town:

        Durango, CO

        Primary Race Distance:

        50 miles, 100 miles

        Other hobbies or sports:

        Climbing

What MHW/ Montrail gear and clothing is in your quiver for a typical day at/ on the trail?
Rogue Racers, ultrarefuel short, Way2Cool shirt

How were you introduced to your sport?
The Hardrock 100 in 2008. I volunteered at an aid station and was completely blown away by what I saw. I ran my first 50k six months later.

        What inspires you?
Big mountains and wild places. Other people doing amazing things, both physically and intellectually. The best are when those are intertwined, when people accomplish goals that require huge physical strength and extreme mental prowess.

Which athletes or other individuals have been your biggest source of inspiration?
I feel silly answering this because I know lots of these guys, but: Kyle Skagg’s Hardrock CR is one of the most incredible athletic achievements I have ever heard of. Alex Lowe’s passion for the mountains was inspiring. Reinhold Messner’s achievements in mountaineering are unparalleled. Kilian Jornet’s sheer raw talent is, actually, kind of infuriating. He’s too good. I need to be better because of him. That’s the power of these athletes. But far and away my biggest inspiration is my parents.

What advice would you give to newcomers to (your sport) today?
Enjoy it. I got into the sport with an intense burning passion and trained extremely hard to accomplish my goals, but over time I’ve found that longevity requires tempering that passion, consciously containing it so that it lasts long term, instead of blowing out after a few hard efforts.

What’s your favorite pre race meal?
        The endangered Giant Panda, raw.

How do you balance your training schedule with your “real” job?
By trying to find a real job. My white picket fence isn’t going to build itself!

Do you have any pre-race/ pre-competition rituals?
Worrying needlessly and staring wide-eyed at the floor.

        In 10 years I hope to be…
        Alive.

        Six-word bio:
Seriously guys, relax, it’s under control”

When singing karaoke, what song do you sing to bring down the house?
        Eazy-E: No More ?’s

What music gets you fired up?
Indie rock, folk rock, bluegrass, metal and dubstep (sometimes)

If you were a super hero, who would you be?
Captain Clever Answer! (Because I don’t have one for this question, alright?)

        Naryan-Mar, Arkhangelsk Region.

        About myself:

I was born on January 14, 1987 in small town  Naryan-Mar, Arkhangelsk Region. But now I live in St. Petersburg. Since a young age I lived an active, sporting lifestyle. At age 15, I started training in small skiing group while attending secondary school. In 2009 I graduated  St. Petersburg State University for Water Communications, in economist - programmer.  Later, began his athletic career as a  mountain runner, becoming a 4-time Russian champion. In my first year of training, I achieved outstanding results that gave me an opportunity to participate in the 2006 Worlds Championships on the mountain running. In 2006, Russian team won the Worlds Championships on the mountain running in Turkey. In 2009 Worlds Championships on the mountain running in Italy, I got a high 8th place overall. In 2009 European Championships on the mountain running Championships in Austria I was 7th
I represented Russia in mountain  running in four European championships, four World championships, and also in  three Skyrunning competitions. Now  I am a member of  the Russian national team in  the mountain running.
Of course, I like to spend my spare time with my friends, in fine weather we like to be in the open air,  like to laugh and joke. And , of course, I like when everything is OK. I like dancing. And of course I like to listen to music! Whenever I have some time to spare, I go to the theatre. I’m not keen on television. I’m fond of reading  business books, books about sales. I like traveling most of all and my work. I work in  sphere of sales.
For me food – is a pleasant source of energy.  I prefer fish and chicken products. In the morning I usually have some cottage cheese with kefir, different porridge then I have tea with sweets. I  love all kinds of milk products, especially kefir, cottage cheese and cheese. I like different kinds of salads, dressed with olive oil or sour cream. I like fresh juice and ice cream.  If I have free time, I try to invent a new salad or find an interesting recipe.
And the last thing I would like to tell you about things I hope to achieve in my life are: to have a very successful career, so next year I will try to archive high level in sport career, to build the home of my dreams and to find someone in my life to share all that with.
